Karius had been on loan at Besiktas until a day or so ago, when he cancelled his contract with the Turkish outfit and returned to Liverpool.
Now, though, it appears Wolves have struck an accord with the Reds – it is up to Karius to agree to the loan deal.
The former Mainz goalkeeper has been a regular for Besiktas ever since moving there – he managed 67 appearances in all competitions – but it would appear that hasn’t restored his reputation that was battered by the two costly mistakes he made during the 2018 Champions League final.
Why Wolves would want to take him is anyone’s guess – Rui Patricio is the current number one and has kept eight clean sheets this term, whilst there is unlikely to be much desire from the Midlands club’s fans for him to be a back-up. As such, if Michael Edwards can convince the Old Gold to pay a large amount or the whole of his £25,000-a-week salary – which is not a lot in today’s market – then it would be close to a miracle.
Wolves would be doing Liverpool a huge favour if they took Karius off the Anfield outfit’s hands – it remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old wants to make the move himself.
