18 reportedly killed In fresh attacks in Plateau state
At least 18 persons have been reported deadand numerous injured in a fresh attack on Ancha vill of Miango District in Irigwe Chiefdom of Bassa LGA, Plateau State.
DailyTrust reports that the fresh attack comes 10 days after three people were ambuscadedand killed in Rafin Bauna Village of same Bassa LGA.
The spokesperson of Operation Safe Haven, amulti-security task force maintaining peace in the state, Major Ishaku Takwa, verified the incident but could n’t give the exact casualtyfigure.
The spokesperson of the Irigwe ethnical group, Davidson Malison, who indicted the Fulani of being responsible for the attack, said six people were injured and over 20 houses razed down while vehicles, motorcycles and gathered foodcrops were destroyed with numerous valuables stolen and transported down.
In a nippy response, the State Chairman of Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN), Garba Abdullahi Muhammed, denied the allegation. He said
“ We aren't apprehensive of the attack but it isn't surprising to hear our name mentionedbecause whenever an attack is launched, our name is frequently called and that's illegal.
“ Remember that on January 2, our memberswere attacked and killed around Rafin Bauna. We've reported the case to security agenciesfor disquisition.”
Meanwhile, Governor Simon Bako Lalong has expressed sadness over the attack, describingit as another sad tale in the everlasting cycle of violent attacks in the area despite several measures taken by the government to attack it. He ordered security agencies to grope out the bushwhackers and make them.
Lalong also directed the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency and the Peace Building Agency to move by and assessthe damage as well as offer immediatephilanthropic interventions.
